Simple Dwelling
Australia
‘Simple Dwelling’ is an architectural research project that focuses on drawing the plan of the non-planned. The study is centered around instances of simple shack and cabin dwellings in Tasmania and coastal NSW.
Through architectural documentation, drawing the plan and elevation, the research documents built examples of simple dwellings. The study speaks to ingenuity of living and building small. It hopes to offer the profession examples of vernacular responses to site, construction and adaptation over time.
Of note in these studies is the use of materials which are often (and in the best case) endemic to the site.
